Polvo rejects Western orthodoxy and inspires everything from Modest Mouse to Unwound in their noisy, complex 1993 track “Sure Shot”, drawing heavily from classical Asian music.
- once in a lifetime by talking heads – pure maji
Talking Heads combine absurd preacher-like antics with African-inspired beats in their iconic 1983 track, “Once In a Lifetime”.

- entertainment! by gang of four – …what music is
Entertainment! is Gang of Four’s 1979 debut album and masterpiece, combining sharp, danceable rhythms with tongue-in-cheek philosophy and anti-consumerist criticism. It’s one of the most unique, innovative punk albums to come out of the 70s while rejecting the typical hallmarks of rock music.
