12 to 12 – sombr

yeah, i’ll admit, it’s a bit shocking i’m listening to this song at all. i don’t listen to sombr, and haven’t really planned on it. i’m not a big fan. but it’s impossible to overlook him since he gets a lot of airplay on the college radio station i listen to.

for a viral tiktok song (and i’m skeptical of viral tiktok songs), this is pretty good. granted, i don’t have tiktok, or any other social media, as a self-proclaimed hermit.

there’s a catchy, groovy piano riff, driving synth and bass. it’s memorable. the song feels a bit older than it is, and honestly, i can’t really place it in a specific time period. the vocals are on the cusp of being melodramatic, but they do their job, and the whole song oozes style and swagger, in contrast with the lovelorn lyrics. it’s actually hard to tell the song is about heartbreak without specifically reading the lyrics, and i would consider it a mismatch, but i imagine it as being alone at a party or some other social gathering. and in that case, it makes sense.

still, this is a pretty fun listen and a creative pop number. give it a listen, in case you haven’t already.
