head in the ceiling fan – title fight

this was a song i chose pretty suddenly. in fact, i chose it on wednesday evening! title fight has been showing up on my recommended recently, so i listened to this, and wow. this song honestly gives a very specific feeling of floating in the air that only “instrumental no. 2” by my bloody valentine has given me. it’s beautiful.

beyond this song, i’ve only listened to “Safe In Your Skin” from title fight. their album Floral Green is on my listening list, and from what i’ve seen Shed is a worthwhile add, too. i don’t usually listen to bands beyond the 00’s, but something about title fight’s relaxed otherworldliness is almost nostalgic, like a memory of an older era.

“Head in the Ceiling Fan” has a repetitive, dreamy riff, and the vocals drone on the same melody for a good three-and-a-half minutes. the riff starts clean and neat and erupts into a dense, cathartic wash of distortion and reverb. it feels very Hum-like: it has the character of shoegaze without the typical excess of shoegaze, something that’s between hardcore, hard rock, and shoegaze. it may not even do it justice to box into a genre. and honestly? every time i listen to it, i’m left wanting to re-listen to it, returning to the sky. almost like the song title suggests. give it a listen! 🙂
