here’s something that’s more totally different-electronic music. my knowledge of sweet trip is pretty limited, but from what i’m aware, they’re an IDM/indie rock/indie pop duo. their album velocity : design : comfort is on my listening list, and i first became interested in them because of the album’s nice cover art. this is the same way i got into the dismemberment plan- i loved the cover art for emergency & i and gave it a listen. the dismemberment plan will be a song of the week sometime soon!
“Dsco” is a fun, catchy pop number with a nice riff (if you can call it that? i don’t know much about IDM) and nice, dual vocals. valeria cooper’s vocals, specifically, are very pleasant to listen to. it’s not ‘out there’ or glitchy like “Pro : Lov : Ad” or “Velocity” (the only other songs of theirs i’ve listened to), but it’s the kind of thing that you would play for someone just about getting into the band (e.g. me) before you start showing them the wackier, ear-melting experimental stuff.
if they’re a combination of experimental pop, IDM, and shoegaze, as the internet seems to say, then this fits best into the experimental pop/IDM category. not quite shoegaze-y yet, but i’m sure the rest of the album gets there.
give it a listen, in case you haven’t already.
