can’t slow down – almost monday

here’s another one i found through the college radio station! i’m pretty sure the vast majority of songs i write about on song of the week-N are from the college radio station. well, it’s my best source for newer alternative music. i frankly don’t know anything about almost monday, except that they’re a california pop trio, so there’s not much of a backstory i can give for this song. it’s a little older, but still gets extensive airplay on the radio station, so here we are.

“can’t slow down” is a stylish, concise number and i really have to give credit to how scratches that itch for pop you can bop to perfectly. it has an infectious chorus, a funky bass line, and a scratchy little guitar lick, but in essence, it’s a dance-pop/disco song. the lyrics make it clear it’s about partying hard, and honestly, this is just the thing i’d be playing at a sunset beach party. by the way, i live five hours away from the nearest beach, and i’ve never really partied, so i can imagine that very well. it’s just what it needs to be-a damn fun, catchy alt-pop song-without being or trying to be more or less.

and it’s an earworm! usually, i find them annoying to have, but “can’t slow down” is a kind of guilty pleasure. if almost monday makes another alternative hit, i wouldn’t be surprised: this track is pretty promising. give it a listen, in case you haven’t already.
